On February 10, 2018, at approximately 11:40 pm, officers from the Sarnia Police Service responded to what was initially believed to be a break and enter to a residence on Mayfair Drive, in the City of Sarnia. Officers arrived on scene and met with the home owner who had gone to a neighbour’s home to call the police.

The 76 year old female victim advised that she had been in her living room watching TV when she heard a loud noise at her side door. She attended the door and the intruder then ordered the victim to take a seat in a kitchen chair where he tied her up to the chair and then began rummaging through the house for things to steal.

Fortunately the victim was able to slip out of her restraints and run to a neighbour’s house to call the police. She had left her residence with the accused still inside. It was later determined that the suspect had left prior to police arrival and that he had stolen her vehicle which has since been recovered.

At this time the only description the police have is that the male is white, no older than 40 years of age, with no facial hair or glasses or piercings, and was wearing a cap or toque with no coat.

The Sarnia Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance in this matter. If anyone has any information they are please asked to contact Detective Sgt. Leo Murphy at 519-344-8861, extension 6142 or Sarnia Lambton Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
