Some time prior to 9:50 pm on February 9, 2018, the Sarnia Police Service received an initial complaint regarding a green pickup truck driving erratically in the City of Sarnia. An attempt was made to locate the pickup truck but at the time officers were unable to find it.
At approximately 9:50 pm, the green pickup truck was in Canatara Park and was observed driving erratically as it drove through snow banks and ran over signs. At one point someone from the truck through a beer bottle at another vehicle in the parking lot which caused a confrontation between the individuals. The driver of the vehicle that was struck by the bottle decided to leave the area and not allow the incident to escalate. As the driver attempted to leave the area the suspect vehicle began following the victim and then smashing into the rear end of the victim’s vehicle.
The victim attempted to evade the suspect who continued following him. The victim was able to call the police and advise what was going on. Police finally located the two vehicles as they were travelling southbound on Christina Street. Officers were able to stop the vehicles without incident.
The officer formed reasonable grounds to arrest the driver of the green pickup for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. He was taken into custody and transported to the Sarnia Police Service and presented to a Breath Technician. The accused provided suitable samples of breath which indicated that he had over twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
The accused, Jeremy Thomas Jones, 22 years of age, of Sarnia, has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol per 1oo ml of blood, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fail to remain, mischief over $5000, and mischief under $5000. He was released on a promise to appear once he was sober.
