Two Charged for Possession of Break & Enter Tools

Two men known to police were recently arrested and charged with Possession of Break & Enter Tools.

On May 25, 2017, at approximately 10:00 pm, an officer from the COPPS Unit observed and stopped a familiar vehicle travelling in the area of Plank Road and McGregor Side Road with two occupants that were also known to the officer.

The driver in this case was arrested for violating a curfew condition on his Recognizance of Bail while the passenger was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

The officer located a camouflage backpack and a red gym bag in the car behind the two individuals. A search of both bags revealed that they had nearly identical items within consisting of neoprene face shields, cordless reciprocating saws, cordless angle grinders, replacement blades, cutting discs, tarps, crowbars and work gloves.

Brian Clifford Rice, age 27 of Sarnia and Douglas William Lemay, age 45 of Sarnia are both charged with Possession of Break & Enter Tools. Rice is also charged with Breach of Recognizance and two additional counts of Breach of Probation. Lemay faces an additional charge of Breach of Probation.

In 2017, the City of Sarnia has experienced above-average amounts of thefts from industrial areas. It should be noted that the officer in this case was conducting surveillance in this industrialized area within the city which is one of many locations that have been targeted for precious metal thefts namely copper, aluminum and stainless steel.
