Fentanyl Traffickers Arrested

On May 23 and May 25, 2017, members of the Sarnia Police Vice Branch conducted a drug investigation into the alleged drug trafficking activities of a 25 year old Sarnia male, Robert Smith. Smith was believed to be involved in the trafficking of fentanyl patches in addition to other controlled substances.

On May 25, 2017, police made observations of Smith within a motor vehicle, conducting believed to be drug transactions within the city of Sarnia.

At around 4:30 PM, in the 400 Block of North Christina Street, members of the Vice Branch arrested Smith and the driver of the vehicle he was in, Anthony Farina, 29 years old, of Sarnia. A third male, a 31 year old Sarnia resident was also arrested at the same location who had participated in a drug transaction.

As a result of the arrest and search of suspects and vehicles and the execution of a search warrant at a residence in the 100 Block of Ann Street, police seized, among other items: 7 ¼ X 100 microgram fentanyl patches with a street value of approximately $4,400, 88 grams of marihuana with a street value of $880 and $12,070.00 Canadian currency and $31.00 US.

Smith and Farina are jointly charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl and cannabis marihuana. They are also jointly charged with trafficking in a controlled substance for fentanyl.

The third male arrested was released and is facing a charge of possession of fentanyl.
