On March 20, 2017, at approximately 6:00 pm, members of the Sarnia Police Service along with Fire attended Canatara Park Beach regarding several young people out on the ice. Upon arriving on scene concern was heightened due to the fact that they were nowhere to be seen.
Fortunately, another witness attended and was able to confirm that the young people had returned to shore. Officers were able to locate the individuals and speak to them.
With the warm weather upon us please keep in mind that the ice is not safe. We did not have a particularly cold winter and the ice that is out there currently is just flowing in from the north and is unstable. Situations like the one yesterday tie up resources and can put the lives of people trying to help in jeopardy.
