Broadcast time: 9:45 am

Date: March 10, 2017

Earlier this morning, at approximately 2:10 am, members of the Sarnia Police Service Uniform Patrol responded to an assault that took place at a local bar in the area of Ontario Street and East Street in the City of Sarnia. The information received indicated that a male was becoming combative with the security personnel after being asked to leave and escorted out of the establishment due to the fact he was beginning to show signs of intoxication.

Officers arrested the suspect and took him into custody. The 35 year old male suspect was then transported to the station to be lodged. As the suspect was being lodged he became agitated. At one point the accused latched onto the leg of an officer in an attempt not to be lodged into the cell. The male was able to force himself out of the cell during the struggle and continued fighting with the officers. Shortly thereafter police were able to regain control of the accused and place him into the cell.

Fortunately no one sustained any injuries during the struggle.

The 35 year old man now faces three counts of assaulting a peace officer, one count of assault and a count of breach of probation. He awaits a bail hearing later today.
