Weekend Antics

Sarnia Police were kept busy on May 4 and it started around 4 AM.  An officer stopped a car in the 400 block of North Christina Street.  The 18 year old male driver from Corunna had been drinking.  He was belligerent with the officer and became aggressive.  He was asked to provide a suitable sample of his breath into a roadside screening device and when he did, it registered a “fail”.  He was arrested.  He became more aggressive and attempted to get out of the cruiser.  He kicked the officer.  He now faces a charge of Assault Police as well as Driving with Over 80 MG.   He was later released on a Promise to Appear.

About a half hour later, at 4:30 AM, a 21 year old Sarnia man was found sleeping on the front yard of a home on Palmerston Street.   The police were called by the resident and when the man was awoken, he was found to be intoxicated.  Two wallets were found on him containing the identification of two different males.  One of the wallets did belong to him.  A GPS was also found on the man.  The owner of the other wallet could not be located.  It, along with the GPS, was seized and the man was released. It was later learned that the other wallet belonged to a man whose car was broken into on Ontario Street.  The victim’s wallet and GPS were taken from the car.   A warrant to arrest has been issued for the 21 year old.  He will face charges of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime x 2 and Possession of Credit Cards x 3. 

At about 7:30 AM, a 57 year old man visiting Sarnia from Alvan, Ontario caught a man breaking into his truck, which was parked in a parking lot in the 200 block of North Christina Street.  While inside the vehicle, the accused ripped the auxiliary brake controller from the dashboard area.  The victim attempted to hold the man while waiting police arrival, but the accused managed to escape.  He was located a short distance away and arrested.  He was found to be on probation.  He faces charges of Mischief Over $5,000, Attempted Theft Over $5,000 and Breach of Probation x 2.   He was held for bail.

Just before 11 AM, police attended the waterfront area at the foot of London Road.  Information was received that someone was found breaking into vehicles in that area.  Witnesses had detained an individual.  A 28 year old Corunna man was arrested by police.  The owner of one of the vehicles found the man with a stereo that had been in his truck.  He faces charges of Theft Under $5,000 and Possession of Stolen Property.  He was later released on a Promise to Appear.

Around 4:15 PM on the same day, May 4, police spotted two women on bicycles on eastbound Davis Street.  They were yelling at each other.  The parties were stopped and spoken to by police.  One of the women, age 48 year old from Sarnia, was found to be on Probation and there was an outstanding warrant for her arrest.  Upon searching her at police headquarters, she was found in possession of crystal methamphetamine along with other drug paraphernalia.  She now faces charges of Possession of Methamphetamine, Breach of Probation x 2.  She was held for bail.    

At about 6:40 PM, police were sent to the area of Davis and Mitton Streets regarding a bleeding man.  Police arrived and found a 49 year old intoxicated Sarnia man walking down the middle of the street.  He did not know where he lived or where he was coming from.  He was arrested under the Liquor Licence Act of Ontario for Being Intoxicated in a Public Place.  A girlfriend was located and she took responsibility for the man.  He left with a Provincial Offence Notice.

On Sunday morning May 5, around 2:30 AM, police responded to a home in the 400 block of Davis Street as an area resident heard the sound of breaking glass.  Police arrived and found the front door window of a home was smashed.  Lots of broken glass was located on the front porch.  There was blood spatter on the siding beside the door.  The blood trail went down the steps and onto the driveway.  This is a multi-unit residence.  The occupant of the unit that was damaged was asleep when the window was smashed.  Another resident saw an unknown man running down the steps.  A white van was seen leaving the area by another tenant.   There are no suspects in this incident.  If you have information about this crime, please call the Sarnia Police at 519-344-8861 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

An finally, on Sunday morning just prior to 7 AM, a 69 year old cab driver was driving four fares from Wellington Street to Pontiac Court.  The cab driver was operating a van at the time.  On the floor of the van was a container to hold change belonging to the driver.  The driver noted that his fares had been drinking.  The driver arrived at the destination and he was paid.  At this time he notice the change container was gone.  The police were called.  Further investigation by police led them to eventually arrest the four parties that had been in the cab.  Eventually three of them, all 18 years of age, were released unconditionally.  However, a 19 year old Chatham man remains in custody and now faces a charge of Theft Under $5,000.  He was found to be out on bail so he was held in custody to await a bail hearing
