Members of the Sarnia Police Service COPPS Unit continue to address the ongoing concerns of thefts, mischief, and break and enter to 220 North Mitton Street, the former hospital site by monitoring the building for any activity.
On January 20, 2017, at approximately 6:30 pm, an officer from the COPPS Unit could hear sounds of saws cutting metal coming from within the building. The officer remained in the area and at approximately 8:15 pm observed shadows emerge through one of the boarded up windows after hearing a loud bang.
The officer was able to locate 3 suspects and in their possession the suspects had copper cable, which was later determined to weigh approximately 99 pounds. A search of one of the suspects located a small quantity of methamphetamine and a knife that they had hidden on their person.
The following people were charged:
- Katelyn Healey (22 years of age, female): two counts of breach of probation, break and enter, carrying a concealed weapon (knife), and possession of a controlled substance
- Leslie MacGregor (37 years of age, male): break and enter
- Craig Robertson (47 years of age, male): break and enter and for failing to comply with conditions of his undertaking.
All three were held for bail and have subsequently been released on conditions.
The Sarnia Police would like to remind people that due to the environment inside the hospital it is not safe to breathe the air. By breaking into the hospital people are risking their health and potentially their life along with committing a crime.
