On January 20, 2017, at approximately 11:25 pm, the Sarnia Police Service along with Sarnia Fire and Lambton EMS responded to a collision where a vehicle struck a house in the area of Cobblestone Crescent and Finch Drive in the City of Sarnia.

Upon arrival, officers noted there was extensive damage to both the residence and the vehicle which was lodged into the front of the house.

The driver of the vehicle was still on scene and had sustained minor injuries from the collision. He was subsequently transported to hospital by ambulance for medical attention. No one in the home was injured from the collision.

The officer who attended the hospital with the driver of the vehicle formed grounds that the driver was impaired by alcohol. At this time, the driver was advised that he was under arrest for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. A qualified breath technician attended the hospital and took samples of breath with an Intoxilyzer.

Once the accused was medically cleared he was transported back to the station and held for a bail hearing. He currently remains in custody pending his bail hearing.

The accused, Jonathan Gies, 36 years of age, from Sarnia, has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and with over 80 mgs of alcohol in his blood. Gies was also charged with possession of a controlled substance (marihuana) and for possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose (a knife).
