Broadcast time: 8:55 am

Date: November 23, 2016

At approximately 1:00 am, on November 23, 2016, a member of the Sarnia Police Service General Patrol observed a vehicle travelling northbound on Russell Street with no tail lights on. As the officer began to follow the vehicle, the officer observed that it appeared that the driver was attempting to evade police by making quick and sudden turns.

At this point the officer activated his emergency lights and it was noted that the vehicle began to speed up. At one point the suspect vehicle made a sudden turn onto a property on Watson Street launching itself onto the lawn striking a tree and a lawn stone. Fortunately the officer was able to block the suspect vehicle in with his cruiser. At this point the driver stepped out and was placed under arrest without incident. It was determined that the 21 year old driver also had conditions not to operate a motor vehicle and not to be in the driver’s seat of a motor vehicle.

The 21 year old man from Sarnia remains in custody and awaits a bail hearing this morning and is facing charges for two counts of breach of recognizance and one count of flight while being pursed by peace officer.
