Date: October 21, 2016

On October 13, 2016 members of the Sarnia Police Service engaged in Project Northern Spotlight which is an ongoing investigation into human trafficking involving mainly women who are participating in the sex trade against their will. This initiative involves the RCMP, OPP, and local law enforcement agencies across the province.

Locally the Sarnia Police Service along with the RCMP have made contact with various sex trade workers in our area and have been investigating if they are part of any human trafficking ring.

Across the province, between the dates of October 11 -16, 2016, involving coordinated investigations, police charged 32 people with 78 offences. Police were also able to ensure the safety of 16 people who had been working in the sex trade as a minor or against their will, including numerous persons 16 years and under.

Project Northern Spotlight is an ongoing investigation. The Sarnia Police Service has identified individuals locally and will continue to investigate their situation to ensure their safety.
