On October 12, 2016, at approximately 9:25 am, members of the Sarnia Police Service were assisting in the escort of a wide load through the City of Sarnia.
During the escort an officer had his emergency lights on and had taken up a traffic point in the area of Exmouth Street and Indian Road with his cruiser. During the process of regaining his position within the convoy he was struck by another vehicle. Fortunately there were no injuries but the cruiser did receive significant damage. The other vehicle involved sustained less damage.
As a result of an investigation conducted by the Sarnia Police Service, the officer was charged under section 156(1)(a) of the Highway Traffic Act which is defined as drive wrong way on a divided highway.
