The Sarnia Police Service would like to remind owners and drivers of e-bikes that the maximum speed that they are allowed to travel at is 32 km/hr.
As of recent officers conducting radar have been measuring speeds in excess of the regulated maximum. In one instance an officer had an e-bike travelling at approximately 60 km/hr.
It is the responsibility of the driver to ensure that the e-bike follows the regulation as set out by the Ministry of Transportation. Regardless of the way it was sold to you or any modifications that may have been made to the e-bike charges can be laid.
Also keep in mind that if you are travelling over the regulated speed for e-bikes then you maybe be charged as if the e-bike were a motor vehicle and face stiffer penalties, for example, driving while suspended if you have had you license suspended.
