At approximately 8:45 am , on September 11, 2016, the Sarnia Police Service was dispatched to the area of McGee Street and Elrick Crescent regarding a complaint from a taxi driver being robbed. The taxi driver, at 72 year old man from Sarnia, had picked up a male in the area of London Road and Fleming Street earlier that morning. He described the man as being 5 feet, 7 inches tall, 150 lbs, in his 20’s and collar-length black hair.
From there the suspect had the victim drive him around to several locations throughout the city. Their final stop was on McGee Street. Upon stopping the suspect asked the driver for any money he had and when the driver told him he had no money the suspect struck the victim in the face. When the taxi driver tried to call for help using his handheld microphone the suspect ripped the microphone out of the radio. The victim then tried to get out of the vehicle but the suspect pulled him back into the cab. The taxi driver was finally able to get out of the vehicle. At this point the suspect located a cup in the front with pocket change in it and took the money.
Again the suspect demanded money from the cab driver to which the victim stated he did not have any. The suspect then ran off heading northbound on Mill Street. Fortunately the cab driver located 2 men in the area who were able to assist by calling the police. The victim did not sustain any sort of serious injury when he was struck.
