Early this morning, at approximately 1:40 am, the Sarnia Police Service responded to a motor vehicle collision on Waterworks Road south of Lakeshore Road. Waterworks Road is currently closed between Lakeshore Road and Michigan Road due to ongoing construction and was clearly marked as so.
According to the information gathered by the investigating officer the two cars were racing each other northbound on Waterworks Road when the first car struck a pile of gravel on the road and then the second car followed in behind striking the rear of the first vehicle. Fortunately no one was injured. The first vehicle received light damage to its rear end while the second vehicle received severe damage to the front of the vehicle.
A 21 year old male and a 23 year old male were both charged with Careless Driving ($490.00) and Driving on a Closed Road ($110.00).
Road closed signs are in effect 24 hours a day as long as the signs are up and unless otherwise indicated.
